Walther K. Lang

Walther K. Lang (*1957) comes from the Lucerne area, Switzerland. After his education as an elementary school teacher, he spent several years focusing on music studies: in Lucerne he studied trombone and wind band conducting and then expanded his knowledge by studying at the Swiss Jazz School in Bern.

During these years he played in many different formations: in wind ensembles, jazz combos, in wind and symphony orchestras and big bands. He also taught trombone and conducted wind orchestras. A study trip to the Berklee College of Music in Boston USA in 1982 had a great influence on him.

After moving to Basel in 1991 he worked as a music teacher at a high school (senior high) - his main job for around 30 years. During these "family years" (three now grown-up children) he invested a lot of energy in his private studies: listening to/analyzing music, studying theory books.

Since 2022 he is composing music for jazz orchestra. He studied jazz composition and arranging for one year with Ed Partyka at the HSLU (Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts) as part of a CAS (Certificate of Advanced Studies) course. In the meantime, numerous compositions have been created:
